During a bungled attempt at gathering data on the unseen druglord known as "Ice Man", San Francisco cop Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) finds himself under the eye of Internal Affairs on charges of manslaughter. Discovering the druglord has a death warrant out on Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), Jack shows up the day he's released from prison, saving his life from hitmen. The two unwilling buddies team up again to save Jack's career, both their lives, hopefully taking down Ice Man in the process.
